The MSJ and the Cultural Affairs Department of La Tour-de-Peilz are pleased to present the exhibition “Nature numérique: photographier le jeu vidéo par Pascal Greco”.
In the 1990s, digital worlds were often thought of as dissociated from the real: on the one hand, reality, the tangible. On the other, the virtual, seen as mere entertainment, with no ecological or political impact. Faced with the proliferation of images generated by artificial intelligence, the questioning of the shared values that make society possible, and the exploitation of our exchanges by platform capitalism, it’s clear that “virtual” images have become political. Faced with a generic visual culture, it’s crucial to rethink our relationship with images. Pascal Greco’s work is part of this process, shifting the focus from realism to sensibility. Through in-game photography, he examines the tension between the real and the virtual, questioning contemporary visual culture and our capacity for action. Considering the human as a sensitive interface, his work rejects a technological vision of images and favors subjective experience: by photographing video game landscapes, he questions the boundary between the real and the virtual, and proposes a return to an ecology of attention and sensitivity, an essential condition for rethinking our relationship with the world.
