Rubik’s Cube Competition

On September 19 and 20, the MSJ will host the Swisscubing Cup Mental Breakdown II 2026, an official competition organized by Swisscubing.

Forget about the traditional speed-solving competition featuring the famous 3x3x3 Rubik’s Cube for a moment! Mental Breakdown showcases challenges that particularly test memory, concentration, and critical thinking.

Among the challenges on the program: solving 3x3x3, 4x4x4, and even 5x5x5 cubes… blindfolded! Competitors must first memorize their cube before attempting to solve it without looking at it. And the clock starts ticking as soon as they begin memorizing.

Another surprising discipline: optimized 3x3x3 solving. Here, speed doesn’t matter at all. Each participant is given the same scrambled cube and tries to find the solution that solves the cube with the fewest possible moves. It’s a whole new way to approach this famous puzzle!

Mental Breakdown is part of the Swisscubing Cup 2026, a national competition held at several venues throughout Switzerland.

Part of the competition will be open to the public: a great opportunity to witness impressive performances and discover a side of the Rubik’s Cube that is likely little known.

And you don’t need to know how to solve a Rubik’s Cube to enjoy the event! There will also be a space for visitors who want to learn how to solve these famous puzzles, discover a few techniques, or simply chat with fellow enthusiasts.
